Breitling For Bentley…

Prestigious luxury class automobiles and high-end wristwatches appear to go hand in hand with each. Both offer precision craftsmanship and design, not to mention premium quality and features matched to the luxurious good looks.

It’s no wonder British luxury automaker Bentley commissioned prestigious Swiss watchmaker Breitling in 2002 to design technical instruments and an onboard clock for the Bentley Continental GT luxury automobile.

The alliance is still going strong 13 years later as Bentley plans to introduce a Continental GT Speed Breitling Jet Team Series Limited Edition automobile.BREITLING-A4436512-B873-SD

Breitling’s technological expertise is featured in the luxury sedan’s dashboard and onboard clock. In addition, the brand’s signature onyx and bright yellow colors are highlighted in the car’s top-grain leather interior seven and the Breitling aircraft jet team emblem is highlighted on the dashboard exterior.

The Breitling and Bentley pairing has also resulted in an exclusive line of quality crafted Swiss-made Breitling timepieces featuring the Bentley name. The handcrafted Swiss-made luxury of fine Breitling timepieces on the inside is matched to impeccable design and elements of a Bentley on the exterior.

You will find a notable assortment of Breitling For Bentley timepieces at luxury retailer TheWatchery.com. The Breitling For Bentley Limited Edition Flying B Chronograph is an absolute standout.

Red Carpet Luxury…

The Academy Awards took place this past weekend and the film Birdman emerged as the big winner taking home four Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay along with Best Cinematography. The Grand Budapest Hotel also came away with four Oscars as well, yet all were  in the technical categories. Meanwhile Eddie Radmayne, Julianne Moore, J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette took the top acting honors.

While the winners were heralded throughout the globe, the major discourse regarding the Academy Awards has been the fashions seen on the nominees, presenters, entertainers and those attending the awards ceremony.

From Moore’s beaded white Chanel Haute Couture gown by Karl Lagerfeld accessorized with Chopard earrings to fellow nominee Rosamund Pike’s Givenchy Haute Couture red gown accompanied by a Lorraine Schwartz necklace, the fashions and accessories worn at the ceremony have been the main focus of media attention in the past few days.BREITLING-AB011012-C783

Fortunately for Lady Gaga, her Sound of Music tribute during the show outshined the red patent leather gloves she wore to accompany her white Alaia gown on the red carpet, preceding the ceremony.

Actor John Travolta did not fare as well wearing an oversized gold neck chain instead of a traditional bow tie with his navy tuxedo.

At least the Breitling Chronomat Travolta wore at the Oscars earned him some notes of admiration. Ditto, the Cartier Pasha watch seen on presenter Jared Leto, which was received more favorably than the blue Givenchy tuxedo and white lace-up shoe ensemble he wore.

From distinguished automatic timepieces to dazzling women’s dress watches, you’ll find many of the prestigious timepieces seen on wrists of Academy Award presenters, nominees and winners at leading luxury retailer TheWatchery.com during their Red Carpet Luxury event.

Over 125 men’s and women’s watches from the best names in luxury are featured in the week-long event, including models from Breitling, Cartier, Rolex, Gucci, Bvlgari, Ulysse Nardin, Maurice Lacroix, Baume & Mercier, Bedat & Co., Corum, Bell & Ross, Raymond Weil, Oris and Rado.

You’re certain to be in the winner’s circle with a Breitling Chronomat Automatic chronograph. The highly polished, premium grade stainless steel case is presented on the signature multi-link bracelet in lustrous stainless steel.

The unidirectional rotating bezel with engraved markers surrounds the blue dial with three subdials, luminous hands and highly stylized Roman numeral hour markers. Features include an automatic date calendar, small-second, 30-minute and 12-hour registers.

Chrono-Logical Matters

In today’s ever changing times, it’s very easy to mistake an oversized women’s watch for a man’s watch. Watch styles like the times we live in are constantly changing and a good number of 40mm or larger women’s sport watches could easily pass for men’s styles.

However, it’s not as easy to mistake a chronograph for a chronometer, although they do sound alike. A chronograph is a watch with independent stop-watch and display watch functions. The term comes from the Greek terms for time: “chronos” and writing: “graph.” And the term is interpreted more today about the recording of time rather than writing.

In 1882, Edouard Heuer patented one of the first time-keeping chronograph watches. Five years later Heuer introduced an oscillating pinion mechanism which is still used in the craftsmanship of mechanical chronographs by many watchmakers today.

BREITLING-A7338710-BB49-SSA chronometer on the other hand is a Swiss-made timepiece awarded a certification of precision by the COSC (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute). A certified chronometer has met the precision criteria and standards of the COSC, as well as having past rigid tests conducted by the Institute.

Interestingly, both 3-hand and chronograph timepieces have been awarded chronometer certification by the COSC. And Swiss-made automatic, mechanical and quartz timepieces are eligible for chronometer certification.

Many of today’s most-prestigious watchmakers, including TAG Heuer, Invicta, Chopard, Graham, Baume & Mercier, Zenith and Breitling feature COSC certified chronometers in their timepiece assortments. In fact, all Breitling watches, both automatic and quartz models are certified chronometers.

You’ll find many of today’s most-sought after Breitling watches at luxury retailer The Watchery, including the Colt II Chronograph for men. This outstanding certified chronometer has a generously proportioned case and matching triple link bracelet in premium grade stainless steel case.

The unidirectional rotating bezel with engraved markers surrounds the patterned black dial with three silver-tone subdials, luminous hands and baton hour markers. A window between the four and five o’clock hours reveals the automatic date calendar.

Features include 1/10th of a second, small-second and 12-hour subdials. A screw-down crown and case back provide water-resistance to 300 meters or 990 feet. Premium Swiss-made quartz movement provides precise time-keeping accuracy. Chronograph is 44mm in diameter and 14 mm thick.

High-Flying Breitling Time

Breitling wristwatches have been associated with the world of aviation for many decades. The brand introduced onboard chronographs for pilots to use on aircraft cockpits in the 1930’s. Many armed forces started using Breitling chronographs thereafter  in air force missions, including the British Royal Air Force who equipped their fighter planes with Breitling timepieces during World War II.

In 1952 Breitling introduced the Navitimer mechanical chronograph featuring a circular slide-rule bezel that was expressly designed to provide navigation related calculations for pilots. Sixty-four years later, the Navitimer stands today not only as one of the oldest mechanical chronographs still being made, but also the first choice for professional pilots throughout the globe.C2334024-G637
