TW Steel Time…

TW Steel timepieces are one of the rising stars in the watch industry. These bold, dynamic oversized wristwatches have been around for less than a decade and are sold throughout the world today in over 100 countries and 5000 retail outlets.

TW Steel Watches started out in 2005 in the Netherlands by a father-and-son team Ton Cobelens and  Jordy Cobelens. Ton was a distributor during the 1980s for Raymond Weil and Maurice Lacroix watches  in the Netherlands and also produced private label wristwatches for KLM and Martinair airlines. Years later, Ton headed an advertising and promotions agency which created campaigns for the Swatch Watch Group.

In 2005, Ton joined with his son Jordy to introduce TW Steel Watches… premium oversized timepieces featuring premium grade stainless steel craftsmanship along with quality Swiss and Japanese movements.TW-CE4001

The brand, which stands “The Watch In Steel,” originally had four models when it debuted in 2005 to worldwide acclaim and popularity.  Today, TW Steel Watches offers over 140 different watch styles for both men and women.

Popular European race car drivers David Coulthard, Mitchell Niemeyer and Dario Franchitti along with entertainer Kelly Rowland are among the TW Steel’s global watch ambassadors. Many of these TW Steel ambassadors also have special limited-edition timepieces named in their honor.

TW Steel watches are highlighted this week at luxury retailer The Watchery. Popular models from the Canteen, Grandeur Tech and CEO Tech collections are featured at special savings up to 81% off the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

The David Coulthard CEO Tech Chronograph watch, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Coulhard’s Formula One debut is one of the timepieces showcased in the week-long event.  This outstanding men’s watch has a strapping Tonneau shaped case that is 44mm in diameter and 15mm thick. Are You Ready To Go Automatic?

Nothing says time-honored elegance and premium-crafted precision more than an automatic wristwatch. Self-winding automatic timepieces are among the most coveted styles for men and women in the world today. A true automatic or self-winding watch features a built-in mainspring mechanism that winds automatically from the natural motion of a user’s arm and provides sufficient energy to run the watch and avoid manual winding.

Abraham Louis Perrelet invented the first automatic timepiece in 1770 with a pocket watch designed to operate when the watch wearer started walking, using an oscillating weight that moved up and down. The self-winding mechanism Perrelet created was revolutionary, since mechanical watches used prior to this period required manual winding.INVICTA-12720

Outstanding automatic wristwatches from Perrelet, Maurice Lacroix, TAG Heuer, Lucien Piccard, Invicta, Tissot, Chopard, Swiss Legend, Raymond Weil, Rado, Oris, IWC, MOMO Design, red line and Seiko are showcased this week at luxury retailer The Watchery during their Automatic Watch Event.

Maurice Lacroix: Masters of Time

Swiss watches reflect a rich heritage in time-keeping excellence. A number of prestigious watchmakers, including Lucien Piccard, Jean Richard and Graham have been around for centuries and carry the name of their eponymous founders.

Others such as Omega, Rolex, Vulcain and Maurice Lacroix are purely brands with no ties to a single individual or inventor.

Founded in 1975, Maurice Lacroix is the leading Swiss watchmaker of prized mechanical timepieces. Every element of the brand’s watches: from the intricate movements inside to the outer cases are produced expressly for Maurice Lacroix at the company’s manufacturing plants.

The brand started as a manufacturer of private-label third party watches for its parent company Desco, who decided in 1975 to market its own brand of wristwatches. Five years later, Maurice Lacroix timepieces were so successful, Desco stopped producing third party watches.MP7218-SS001-110

The introduction of the Masterpiece collection in the early 1990s gave Maurice Lacroix world-wide popularity and led the way to a wide array of heralded automatic and mechanical watch collections for men and women, including the Les Classiques and Pontos series.

Many of today’s best-selling Maurice Lacroix men’s and women’s timepieces are showcased this week at online retailer The Watchery’s “Masters of Time” event.

The Maurice Lacroix GMT Mechanical Timepiece for men is one of the distinguished timepieces featured in the promotion. This extraordinary mechanical wristwatch has a generously sized case in polished steel, that is 46mm diameter and 14mm thick case.

The handsome black alligator strap and fluted polished steel crown add to the luxurious good looks. The skeleton crystal exhibition caseback lets you see the intricate mechanical movement inside.

The silvery-white and black dial has an Art Deco feeling with luminous sword hands and highly stylized Roman numeral hour markers. Features include  a small-second subdial, power-reserve, GMT time and date indicator.

Additional features include Swiss-made hand-wound mechanical movement inside and water-resistance to 50 meters or 165 feet.

Life In The Fast Lane

The NASCAR racing season officially kicks of this week in Daytona Beach, FL with the Daytona 500 Race taking place on Sunday, February 23.

Preliminary races have already began in Daytona. Driver Austin Dillon won the Pole Race this past Sunday with the famed Number 3 on his car, channeling the spirit of legendary racecar driver Dale Earnhardt, who raced to victory with seven NASCAR Winston Cup Championships in the Number 3 Car, until his untimely death in 2001.

Dillion is expected to participate in Sunday’s big race against other racing pros: Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer and Dancia Patrick.

While European racing competitions such as the Grand Prixe and LeMans may be more celebrated around the world, the Daytona race has been heralded by not one but two legendary Swiss watchmakers: Rolex and TAG Heuer.cav511a.ba0902

In 1963, Rolex introduced the Cosmograph Daytona, a new generation chronograph expressly designed for racecar drivers and named for the high-speed Florida speedway. The stationary tachymeter bezel used for calculating speed on the Rolex Daytona remains one of the signature elements of the collection featured on models being produced today.

In 1976 TAG Heuer introduced the Daytona Chronograph to appeal to the American racing watch market with a collection of automatic timepieces featuring innovative modern silhouettes with their most recent  automatic calibre movement inside.

While the TAG Heuer Daytona timepiece is no longer being produced, you can enjoy many of the aspects that made this timepiece unique with the TAG Heuer Grand Carrera Chronograph. This dynamic automatic men’s watch, available at internet retailer The Watchery, carries the distinction of being a certifed Chronometer by the COSC.

The premium grade stainless steel case is presented on a matching triple line bracelet. The stationary tachymeter bezel encircles the black dial with two subdials, luminous hands and hour markers.

Features include an automatic date calendar at the 6 o’clock hour, small-second and 60-minute registers. Chronograph is 43mm in diameter, 15mm thick and is water resistant to 100 meters or 330 feet.

Complimentary delivery is included on all domestic watch purchases at The Watchery.
