The NASCAR racing season officially kicks of this week in Daytona Beach, FL with the Daytona 500 Race taking place on Sunday, February 23.
Preliminary races have already began in Daytona. Driver Austin Dillon won the Pole Race this past Sunday with the famed Number 3 on his car, channeling the spirit of legendary racecar driver Dale Earnhardt, who raced to victory with seven NASCAR Winston Cup Championships in the Number 3 Car, until his untimely death in 2001.
Dillion is expected to participate in Sunday’s big race against other racing pros: Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer and Dancia Patrick.
While European racing competitions such as the Grand Prixe and LeMans may be more celebrated around the world, the Daytona race has been heralded by not one but two legendary Swiss watchmakers: Rolex and TAG Heuer.
In 1963, Rolex introduced the Cosmograph Daytona, a new generation chronograph expressly designed for racecar drivers and named for the high-speed Florida speedway. The stationary tachymeter bezel used for calculating speed on the Rolex Daytona remains one of the signature elements of the collection featured on models being produced today.
In 1976 TAG Heuer introduced the Daytona Chronograph to appeal to the American racing watch market with a collection of automatic timepieces featuring innovative modern silhouettes with their most recent automatic calibre movement inside.
While the TAG Heuer Daytona timepiece is no longer being produced, you can enjoy many of the aspects that made this timepiece unique with the TAG Heuer Grand Carrera Chronograph. This dynamic automatic men’s watch, available at internet retailer The Watchery, carries the distinction of being a certifed Chronometer by the COSC.
The premium grade stainless steel case is presented on a matching triple line bracelet. The stationary tachymeter bezel encircles the black dial with two subdials, luminous hands and hour markers.
Features include an automatic date calendar at the 6 o’clock hour, small-second and 60-minute registers. Chronograph is 43mm in diameter, 15mm thick and is water resistant to 100 meters or 330 feet.
Complimentary delivery is included on all domestic watch purchases at The Watchery.
