The Baume & Mercier Mystique

Baume & Mercier is a Swiss watchmaker with a steep legacy in horology. The brand was founded in 1830 by brothers Louis-Victor and Celestin Baume, who opened a watch dealership in Jura, Switzerland, offering premium pocket watches of the highest quality and craftsmanship.

By the late 19th Century, the brand was recognized for their chronographs and grand complications, including tourbillons, minute repeaters and calendars and was recognized with the highest honors at international exhibitions in Paris, Melbourne, Zurich, London, Amsterdam and Chicago.

The Baume brand was also heralded for its time-keeping accuracy, victoring in a time-keeping competition held by the Kew Observatory in London during 1892.BAUME-A10048

In 1918 the Baume brand joined forces with Paul Mercier forming Baume & Mercier. A year later, the newly founded brand was awarded the “Poincon de Geneve,” the ultimate standard of watchmaking excellence by the Swiss Company of Watchmakers.

During the 1940’s, Baume & Mercier introduced timepieces expressly for women with jewelry inspired models featuring diamonds, gemstones and bangles. The designs were not just miniaturized designs of men’s models. Femininity soon became an integral part of the brand’s values and is evident today with the brands Linea series, created exclusively for women.

The Art Deco era of the 1940’s also inspired the introduction of the Hampton collection featuring rectangular shaped men’s and ladies’ timepieces with sleek, sophisticated contours. A modern updated version of the Hampton timepiece is among Baume & Mercier’s top-selling watches series today.

You’ll find many Baume & Mercier men’s and women’s watches at luxury retailer The Watchery, including the Hampton men’s automatic timepiece. This highly stylized wristwatch features a rectangular shaped case and signature link bracelet in premium grade stainless steel.

The stationary stainless steel bezel frames the handsome black dial with luminous hands and Arabic numeral hour markers. A window at the 3 o’clock hour reveals the automatic date calendar. A square small-seconds subdial above the 6’clock hour adds distinction.

Features include premium Swiss-made automatic movement inside and water-resistance to 50 meters. Watch is 32mm wide and 10 mm thick.

Complementary delivery is included on all domestic watch purchases at The Watchery.
